The chairman and two secretaries of the Swedish Parliamentary Committee inquiry concerning the investigation on Arms Export Controls (KEX) are planning a visit to the Netherlands on October 9-10, and the Swedish Embassy in The Hague has been asked to assist in scheduling meetings with relevant actors. The main task of the committee is to provide suggestions to stricter policies on arms export control to non-democratic regimes. In this task, one key aspect is to give an account of arms export control policy in other countries.
The committee is interested in discussing how tweede kamer is involved in questions on arms export control, relating to the issues of transparency and openness. Are there discussions in the kamer/relevant committees concerning the annual report on arms export? Does tweede kamer have insights into the process of granting permits for arms export? Do MPs send questions/interpellations to the government regarding arms export?
If there are members of the Committee for Foreign Trade and Development who would be able to discuss how tweede kamer is involved in these types of questions with the chairman of KEX, it would be much appreciated. The chairman, Mr. Hans Wallmark, and the two secretaries of the committee – Mr. Richard Tornberg and Mr. Hannes Magnergård – are planning to come to The Hague on October 9. They are available for meetings primarily in the afternoon. Would someone from the committee be able to meet with Mr. Wallmark on this date?
